By 10am there are 200 people at the Blue Lagoon. At 6am there are two.

They're on your jet skis. The tour boats haven't left yet. The ferries are still in port. The water is so flat it reflects the sky like a mirror. The caves are lit by the first sunlight hitting the cliffs from the east. And the Blue Lagoon is yours. No anchored catamarans. No music. Just the sound of the engine idling and the water lapping against the rocks.

What the morning looks like

The alarm goes off at 5:15 and you wonder why you agreed to this. You drive to Hondoq in the dark. The bay is empty. Jonathan is already there, coffee in hand, checking the jet skis.

By the time you clear the bay, the sky is changing. Pink first, then orange. The water is glass. Your wake is the only ripple on the surface. The first cave appears and the light inside is completely different from the afternoon tours. The sun enters from the side and the walls glow amber.

By the fifth cave you've stopped taking photos and started just looking. The Blue Lagoon appears and it's empty. Completely empty. You kill the engine and float. Jonathan does this every morning and he still smiles when he sees it.

You swim. The water is warmer than you expect because the shallow sand holds the heat from yesterday. By the time you head back, the first tour boats are passing you going the other way. You've already seen everything they're about to see. You're back at Hondoq before 8am. The rest of the day is yours.

We were on our honeymoon and this was the highlight. We had the entire Blue Lagoon to ourselves at 6:30am. Jonathan took the photo that's now our screensaver. Worth every second of the early alarm.

I did the regular safari at 11am last year. Good. But the sunrise version is a different planet. The caves glow. The water is flat. And the lagoon with nobody in it is something else.

Some mornings are just mornings

This one won't be. If you prefer the regular daytime safari (same route, more energy, less solitude), check the standard jet ski safari. Same price, different mood.

Common questions

What time does the sunrise jet ski safari start?+
Departure is at 6:00am from Hondoq Bay. Jonathan meets you at the yellow umbrella at 5:45. The sun rises between 5:30 and 6:15 depending on the month. The early start means you reach the Blue Lagoon before any other boats arrive.
Is the sunrise safari the same route as the regular safari?+
Same 5-cave route, same guide (Jonathan), same price. The difference is the light, the water, and the solitude. At 6am the water is mirror-flat, the caves are lit by the first sunlight, and the Blue Lagoon is completely empty. By 10am there are 200 people there.
Can couples ride together on one jet ski for the sunrise safari?+
Yes. The pair option is €150 for two riders on one jet ski. Many couples choose this because it means riding side by side through the sunrise together.
