Everyone takes the long way

The public ferry leaves from Cirkewwa on the Malta side. 25 minutes, standing room, drops you at a beach that is not the Blue Lagoon. Then you walk. From Hondoq Bay you're in the lagoon in 15 minutes. You park free at the bay, walk to the yellow umbrella, and Shanna puts you on the next boat. That's it.

What happens when you get there

You step off the boat into knee-deep water. It is warm. The sand under your feet is white. You look up and the water ahead of you is the color you thought only existed in drone footage. It doesn't. It's real. It's right here.

The lagoon is shallow enough to stand in most places. Kids play in the shallows. Couples float on their backs staring at the sky. The cliffs of Comino and Cominotto frame both sides like a natural amphitheater built for swimming.

When you're ready, you walk back to the pickup point and wave at the next shuttle. Fifteen minutes later you're back at Hondoq, already planning what to do with the rest of the afternoon.

We almost took the Cirkewwa ferry. So glad we didn't. From Hondoq we were in the water in 15 minutes. Parking was free. €10 each. Best decision of the trip.

We did the shuttle in the morning and came back for the cave tour in the afternoon. The shuttle was €10 and the cave tour was €15. For €25 total we saw everything.

Most people come back the next day

The shuttle shows you the Blue Lagoon. But from the water you'll see the cave entrances along the coastline and wonder what's inside. That's why most shuttle passengers come back for the cave and Blue Lagoon tour with Jonathan. €15. 20 minutes. 5 caves you can't reach on foot.
